Soldier in uniform, identified by a researcher as Robert McGowan, Service number 3977. The reference to 1914 on the photograph was the year he was appointed as Missioner to Koolunga. His service records note he was a Missioner by occupation, his religion given as Presbyterian. He enlisted on 24 March 1915 and embarked in South Australia, for service overseas. He joined the 7th Field Ambulance and transferred to 3rd Field Ambulance. The shoulder patch, which is a cross on a white circle, confirms he was serving in the Australian Medical Corps to which Field Ambulances were attached. He died of wounds 15 May 1917
