Summary

Australia Day procession, King William Street, Adelaide. The three vehicles described as Tableaux 1, Tableaux 2 and Tableaux 3 are described in The Advertiser newspaper of 28 July as; "The main attractions in the sixth section ... were provided by Mr. William Anderson's Tivoli Theatre Company. They submitted three tableaux. The first illustrated the landing of Captain Cook. The gallant navigator was shown about to step ashore from a boat manned by two seamen, attired according to the period, and crowded also upon the vehicle was a group of hostile blacks, shaking wicked-looking spears and brandishing boomerangs. The second tableaux depicted an Australian home; and the third, while it symbolised the achievement of manhood by the young nation; was also an effective recruiting appeal. It showed a number of Australians in a trench fighting on, though sorely wounded - waiting for reinforcements."
