General notes

Harry Burgess came to Australia in 1913 with the American Burlesque Company, and as with several other members of that troupe remained in the country for the rest of his life. Regarded by his peers as an excellent character comedian, the 6ft plus comedian was a long time star on the Fullers circuit, touring with the Jim Gerald, Ward and Sherman companies, as well as his own troupe. He also appeared in pantomimes, musical comedies like Betty Lee (1926) and Rio Rita (1929) and in Roy Rene's 1934 film Strike Me Lucky. Source: Australian Variety Theatre Archive www.ozvta.com.
