Historical information

This is one of 29 painting and six pencil sketches in a sketchbook, bearing the inscription inside the front cover 'E. Gouldsmith "Superb" April 1883'. It is assumed that Gouldsmith travelled to Australia aboard the 'Superb'. Gouldsmith worked from both ends of the sketchbook.
