Summary

Watercolour painting with gouache highlights depicting a shallow creek passing over a rocky stream bed, with trees on either side and a post-and-rail fence in the middle distance. There is a barely discernable ink signature on the bottom left of which the letter 'A' is the only confirmed character, and '1893' underneath. On the back of the paper there is a rough isometric drawing of various geometric shapes with the words 'July [illegible] 1893' pencilled along one edge. The words 'Browns Creek 1885' have been pencilled on the back of the new backing board, with further pencil notes by the accessioning archivist which read 'Brownhill Creek according to Kensington Gallery'. Photographic copy also available.
