Historical information

George Jacob Haussmann (1870-1936) toured Australia as an escapologist and magician under the stage name of George Percy Verto. He married Amelia Elizabeth 'Millie' Richardson (1876-1949) in 1903. Millie was born at Christchurch in New Zealand to John and Julia Estana Clark (?-1922). Her mother later married Harry Richardson and the family moved to Adelaide. Millie began touring as a vaudeville performer in 1886 under stage names that included Millie Richardson, Millie Verto and La Petite Verto. The Hausmanns assembled their own touring company and staged shows in country towns for several decades. Millie ran a shop in Gouger Street after George's death.
