General notes

Frederick Symons retired from work at Islington in 1933.

A researcher has provided more information on photograph 12: The pump for the hydraulic accumulator, the legs can just be seen through window on right. This was replaced by a more modern and compact design; photo was taken in a section used by millwrights and fitters assigned to repair equipment in the blacksmith shop (shop is locat(ed through window on left). Another researcher states: 'The 600 class was probably being re-engineered circa 1941 (it was originally built in the UK), Locomotive 520 was built at Islington and entered service in 1943, Locomotive 526 entered service in 1945, and the Cafeteria Car also built at Islington entered service in 1947. The rest of the photos that show plant and equipment really could date anytime from mid 1920s onwards to post Second World War.
