Historical information

Charles Lawrence Whitham (1845-1908), was born a native of Dunkinfield, England. An educationist and formerly minister of the Unitarian Church in Adelaide, he knew Catherine Helen Spence well and had been influenced by her ideas on education. He became an Inspector of Schools in South Australia. He worked with Spence in many areas of interest and was treasurer of Minda Home. Whitham and Spence were the two Unitarians who took services when the Minister was unavailable.
