Historical information

Sir William Morgan arrived in Port Adelaide in the 'Glenelg' in February 1849. Initially he worked on the land near the Murray River. At the beginning of 1852 he went to the Victorian Gold Rush. He was elected to the South Australian Legislative Council in 1867. In 1878 he became premier and chief secretary. He reigned in 1881, in 1883 he left for England and died in November the same year.
