Half-plate glass negative of Governor General, Lord Denman's, viceregal train at Port Augusta for the turning of the first sod on the Trans Australian Railway. The locomotives are Y class No. 125 and No. 100.

Y class locomotive No. 100 was built by Beyer Peacock at Manchester, England. It entered service in 1890 and was condemned in 1928. No. 125 was built by James Martin at Gawler, South Australia. It entered service in 1891 and was condemned in 1936.
