Historical information

A researcher has noted that this is 'a 'Builders' shot of a SAR Y class narrow gauge wagon, which is very similar to the narrow gauge X class but with two drop-down doors per side to facilitate unloading on Broken Hill ore traffic. Many similar wagons used on the Commonwealth Railways were classed NGAS. They lasted on the isolated Orroroo and Wilmington narrow gauge lines till the late 1980s'.
