General notes

According to researcher Helen Woodward, this image depicts a wonderful early photograph of the first Sydney (Circular Quay) to MANLY ferry service, possibly early 1900s. The background illustrates trams and warehouse buildings, which may indicate the Central Business District area of Sydney. The crowds waiting to board the Port Jackson Manly Ferry service could possibly be taking part of one of the well know 'excursion ferry' trips, which were very popular in the early history of the ferry service. Ferries like these transported large groups of people to various parts of Sydney Harbour, and the service included 'picnic' type refreshments on board.
