Summary

Four men and three women photographed on Althorpe Island with the lighthouse in the background; the woman sitting far right is identified as being Lizzie Tyley with Mr Tyley standing behind her, the young man standing second from the left is identified as being Mr. Watling, he and Mr. Tyley are thought to be the lighthouse keepers; other names not known.

Historical information

Hurtle Clair Tyley, born Unley S.A. 1882, was a keeper at the Althorpe Light. His wife Lizzie (Elizabeth) was the daughter of John Jacob Grot Kopp, a keeper at Cape Borda, Corny Point and other lighthouses in SA. Hurtle Tyley's brother Keith Tyley (my grandfather) also served at Neptune Island light. [Information supplied by Sharon Munchenberg.].
