General notes

The locomotive has been identified as the 'Number 1' locomotive used by Smith and Timms on construction of the Yeelanna-Minnipa Hill and Cummins-Kimba railway lines on Eyre Peninsula between 1912 and 1915. As the locomotive was only used on Eyre Peninsula while in South Australia, and the wagons behind the locomotive in the photograph are South Australian vehicles, this photograph must be on Eyre Peninsula in the 1912-1915 period. This is a rare photograph of a unique and historical significant locomotive. (Information supplied by Peter Knife). Another researcher has provided the following information: 'This locomotive was built by Dubs & Co. of Glasgow in 1896 and worked also in Western Australia and Tasmania, ultimately coming into the possession of the Commonwealth Railways in 1915, as its NFA 8'.
