General notes

A piece of ephemera, which although creased and torn around the edges is intact.

The "Burns Note" was printed by Frederick William Sears in 1881 as an advertisement. The tailor, Joseph Burns was committed for trial for "false pretences" and "forgery" for issuing "colourable imitation" but a "noli presequi" was entered, so that Burns escaped punishment. However, the man who cashed the "Burns note" got 18 months at Burne session. [Information provided by Frances Sears].
