Historical information

Information from a researcher: 'William went to the Boer war as a Regimental Sergeant Major (with Breaker Morant...there is a photo on record) and was promoted in the field for his action in an incident but his Lieutenancy was not going to be recognised on his return to Australia. There is an article in QUIZ (7th August 1901) that refers to the Duke of Cornwall's successful intervention to Lord John Forrest (the Federal Minister for Defence) over this matter. William served with the 17th Lancers for many years and fought at the battle of Ulandi in the Zulu war of 1897.
