Summary

James McGuire, Commissioner of Railways and Tramways in South Australia standing third from the left in a group of men in front of a railway carriage during a visit to the Eyre Peninsula. Benjamin Franklin Rushton, Chief Mechanical Engineer stands first left, Mr. Day, General Traffic Manager and Frederic Wilbur Steven, Chief Engineer for Railways stand fourth and fifth from the left. The man second from left is Rawdon Rickaby Robinson. He was a clerk in the commissioner's office and was probably acting as the commissioner's private secretary. Robinson later served in that role for William Alfred Webb, before becoming assistant industrial officer (and later, industrial officer, before retiring). The two men standing behind the front group are likely the resident engineer and the local superintendent. The carriage is the Wandana which was used on the narrow gauge lines of the Eyre Peninsula.
