Historical information

Prior to the move to Cheltenham Racecourse in around 1890, leased from the estate of David Bower, racing was conducted further north toward Grand Junction Road. The open wooden stand at top is not part of the one below but was transferred to the site from the other course and eventually placed atop a stand that with some changes is still the main one at Cheltenham Park today. Was referred to as Derby Stand and eventually burnt down (ca.1965). [Information provided by R. Hill.].
