General notes

This photograph is published in The Observer newspaper, 13 August 1921, page 26.

Historical information

Union Parliaments were established around South Australia in the 1880s, and seem to have been organizations where parliamentary practice could be practiced. Quite a few future M.P.s actually went through the system, as did a lot of journalists. They had some connection with the SA Literary Societies' Union. Note that in this context 'union' means 'united' (ie not trade unions).
