Summary

South Australian army staff soldiers at a military camp. Hector Roy Heming is in the centre of the middle row; Elwyn Samuel Gould is to his left (fifth from left in middle row); Harold Egerton Malpas is third from right in front row. There is a brief article in 'The Register" Saturday 17 January 1914, page 6 about the attendance of Gould, Maplas and others at a special 'class of instruction' (a similar one appeared in 'The Advertiser' on the same day, page 23).

General notes

Historical information

Elwyn Samuel Gould (1893-1917) enlisted in 13 April 1915, served as a lieutenant in the 27th Battalion, 12th Reinforcements and was killed at Passchendalele, Belgium on 9 October 1917 age 24. Harold Egerton Malpas enlisted on 1 March 1915, served as a Lieutenant with the 7th Machine Gun Company, and was killed at Picardie, France on 7 August 1916 aged 21.
