Historical information

The Bank of Thrift was re-decorated for the 1918 visit of General Pau from France; believed to be the official ceremony. A cheque for £1,000, collected for the Children's Patriotic Fund, was handed to General Pau for the French Red Cross. The pupils of four city schools were present, with pupils from Thebarton and East Adelaide making the actual presentation as they were very active in raising money for patriotic purposes.
