Summary

Sir Henry Galway, Governor of South Australia inspecting a parade of soldiers returned from service overseas during World War I which is held on Adelaide Oval; the cricket scoreboard and St.Peter's Cathedral can be seen in the background. A few individuals have been identified: the two men standing apart in the fron right hand corner are Col. Stanley Price Weir (left) and Lieutenant Colonel Walter Dollman; the two men on the far right of the line of soldiers being inspected are Sergeant Major Carey (2nd from left, wearing a Croix de Guerre) and W.O. Pritchard (on end of line, wearing his Distingushed Conduct and Military Medals).

This event, which took place at Adelaide Oval in April 1919 was widely reported in the local press: 'The Register', Monday 7 April 1919, page 4; 'The Journal, Saturday 5 April 1919, page 2; 'Daily Herald', Monday 7 April 1919, page 6; 'The Critic', Wednesday 9 April 1919, page 9; 'The Chronicle', Saturday 12 April 1919, page 28; 'The Critic', Wednesday 9 April 1919, pages 7 and 16; and 'The Advertiser', Monday 7 Aprul 1919, page 8. There are references to both Carey and Pritchard at this event in 'The Mail', Saturday 5 April 1919, page 2; a photo of them with others also appeared in 'The Mail', Saturday 19 July 1919, page 3. This photo was taken from the same vantage point and only a short time after PRG 280/1/15/569.
