Historical information

Known as 'The Father of the Royal Australian Navy' Sir William Creswell was a persistent advocate for an Australian Navy before World War I, he was the first naval member of the newly formed Australian Naval Board in March 1911 and advisor to the Government on naval affairs; he retired in November 1919 and promoted to Vice-Admiral in 1922.
