Historical information

Originally attributed as an event which took place at Adelaide Oval in April 1919 and widely reported in the local press: 'The Register', Monday 7 April 1919, page 4; 'The Journal, Saturday 5 April 1919, page 2; 'Daily Herald', Monday 7 April 1919, page 6; 'The Critic', Wednesday 9 April 1919, page 9; 'The Chronicle', Saturday 12 April 1919, page 28; 'The Critic', Wednesday 9 April 1919, pages 7 and 16; and 'The Advertiser', Monday 7 April 1919, page 8. However, a researchwe has pointed out that the Governor is wearing his 'dark, overtly British Army uniform by 1916 and went for a more generic khaki uniform, more in line with the AIF uniforms. In support of this see PRG 280/1/9/114 and 'The Critic' 15 September 1915, page 17 (dark uniform); and PRG 280/1/26/75 for the lighter uniform.
