Summary

A group of officers and men attending an army camp in South Australia. Colonel J.H.A. Lee is 5th from left in the middle row; Major Samuel Gould is seated on his left (6th from left in middle row) and Lieutenant Hillary William Neale is seat in the front row, 4th from left. A researcher has suggested that based on the insignia and uniforms, this photograph was taken pre 1912.

Historical information

Major Gould was a noted choral conductor and soldier. [Gould's son, Elwyn Samuel Gould, was killed in WW1 whilst serving in 27th Battalion.] Before the war Hillary William Neale was in the Adelaide Rifles (10th Battalion Australian Infantry Regiment) and 74th Infantry; he served in WW1 in a non AIF capacity - as Transport Officer (on ship) and 'Camp Adjutant' Exhibition Camp.
