Historical information

The Strathneath property was sold to William and Grace Philbey in approximately 1931. The property included a beautiful stone home, extensive stables and a racing track on the property. Alexander Davidson McDonald was born in Scotland, 16 November 1847 in Backieley, Marnoch, Banffshire and came to S.A. in 1864 on the 'Art Union' as Alexander Davidson. He died 26 October 1926 in South Plympton, South Australia leaving eleven children. His will went to the Civil Court for clarification. The "Strathneath School" was in the south eastern corner of the property. Teachers boarded at the "Strathneath" home. [Information provided by two researchers].
