Historical information

This grain elevator was built at Tiffin, Ontario, Canada, later part of Midland, Ontario, Canada for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, later Canadian National Railway. Construction was carried out by John S. Metcalf Company in 1908. The elevator was expanded again in 1924 bringing the capacity of 4.5 million bushels. It was eventually equipped with three unloading towers and legs, only of which two are visible in this photo. It was closed in January 1990 after the cancellation of a federal rail subsidy and demolished. Waterfront homes now (2013) line the area where this grain elevator used to stand.
