General notes

The pipe rising out of the reservoir was used to support pulleys for the rods that run all the way up to the valve wheelhouse at the top of the hill (in this picture). There were three valves which were operated by a rod each. The valves were set at different levels to give an equal three waterings/summer to the irrigation blocks about 4 miles north of Orroroo. The valves were simply an open inlet with a hinged lid. The scheme, however, failed due to silting up. [from information supplied by John Mannion].
