No. 237 John 'Jack' William Searcy, MC, Born London, England, he enlisted in South Australia on 19 August 1914 and served with the 10th Infantry Battalion, being wounded in action at Gallipoli on 1 May 1915 and France on 24 July 1918. He returned to Australia in 1918.

Citation for Military Cross states; "In the operations near Jeancourt, on 18th September, he was responsible for the direction of the battalion. In order to successfully fulfil his task under very difficult circumstances he fearlessly exposed himself, advancing up to and across our barrage frequently in order to correct direction. His gallantry was an inspiration to all who saw him, and contributed largely to the morale which carried so few men so long a distance."
