Historical information

Said Halim Pasa was an Ottoman statesman who served as grand vizier (chief minister) from 1913-1916. He signed the treaty of alliance with Germany in 1914 but was known to oppose the Ottoman participation in World War I; he resigned in 1916, was banished to Malta by the British in 1918 and after his release went to Rome where he was assassinated by an Armenian.
