When the river Darling is high in a wet year, a large quantity of wool is lightered down stream in barges. In dry and ordinary years the bulk comes to Broken Hill by camel trains.

On New Year's Day 1915, two Turks fired on a picnic train going to Silverton and killed one or two people and wounded others. After a long chase by the police and citizens they ambushed themselves behind these rocks, and fired on the Police, and were finally killed.
