Caption on front: 'The Joseph Timms Reinforced Sleeper. Sleepers in position in Main Northern Line, near Adelaide'. Caption on back: 'After his retirement as Headmaster of the Kapunda School, Adolph Mueller was able to indulge in his hobbies to the full. He was always interested in scientific research work. One of his ideas was to make concrete sleepers for the railways. This project, unfortunately, did not do him justice, as before the idea could be patented, it was pirated by another person and marketed as the "Joseph Timms Reinforced Sleeper". Historical information

Adolph E. Mueller worked for many years in the Education Department, and occupied the position of headmaster in several of the largest schools in South Australia, including Tanunda, Currie Street (Adelaide), Wallaroo, Petersburg, Kapunda and Parkside. He was born Adolf Emanuel Muller on 10 September 1857 in Lobethal, South Australia, to Johann Ferdinand Muller and Auguste Wilhemina (nee Vileinitz). He married Pauline Emma Helene Schroeder in 1881, and they had four daughters: Norma Clara (born 1882), Elsa Hannchen/Hansie (born 1883), Clara Romana (born 1885), and Senta Diosma (born 1895). The family lived in Wallaroo, Peterborough and Adelaide. Adolph Mueller worked as a headmaster, and had entrepreneurial interests in areas including: railway sleepers, 'sea grass', and mining. He died suddenly in September 1919, aged 62 years, while inspecting mining ventures in the Eyre Peninsula, near Yabmana.
