Summary

A birthday letter written to Fred (Frederick Haydon Curtis Yeo, 1884-1963) on his 11th birthday, from his father Richard Curtis Yeo who was working at the bank in Yongala, with birthday wishes and advice on how to be an "honourable and straightfoward" man, and concluding: "Remember your Father believes in you, and expects and hopes to see you turn out a man that he can point to proudly as his son".

Historical information

Mrs. Julia Wurm (nee Crush) (c.1837-1912) came to South Australia from Brentwood, Essex, England in the 'Calcutta' in 1849. Her husband, Louis F. Wurm (1833-December 1910), was a shipping agent, wheat-buyer, store-keeper, and builder at Stansbury. Port Julia on the east coast of the Yorke Peninsula is named after Julia Wurm. They were married on 28 May 1859 and had eight children: Elizabeth Julia (Ellie) (1860-1948), Ludwig (later Louis) (1862-1904), Frederick Henry (1865-1938), Gertrude Mary (1867-), Gustav Adolph (1869-), Walter Charles (1872-), Alfred Ernest (1877-), and Mabel Josephine (1883-1918). Their eldest daughter, Ellie, married Richard Curtis Yeo (1852-1903), bank manager at Yongala, in 1881. They had three children: Minnie Annette (1882-), Frederick Haydon Curtis (1884-1963), and Lindley Wilton (or Lindley Walter) (1894-1966), known as 'Wally', who enlisted with the AIF, No.3329 Pte. L.W. Yeo, and served on the Western Front during the First World War.
