Left to right: Dr. I. Evans, Mr. Frank Russell, Mr. David Cox (Head of Electronic Engineering Department), Miss Pat Fisher, Mrs Russell, Mr Fort (Head of Electrical Engineering Department), Mr. J. Mount, Sir Mark Oliphant and an unnamed student. The building was named in tribute to Sir Charles Todd, who, in the 1880s, lobbied tirelessly for a centre of technical education in South Australia. He gave strong support for the establishment of the School of Mines and was appointed to its first Council. The Todd family was represented by Miss Pat Fisher who was one of the few surviving members of Charles Todd's family in Australia.

Historical information

'The Institute had been involved with teaching in the area [of computer studies] since 1961 when a course of lectures on computers was introduced by the head of the Electronic Engineering Department, David Cox. A description of the course stated that it was a ...'course for businessmen and engineers covering the principles and applications of both digital and analog computers.''
