General notes

Part of a collection comprising digital copies of artefacts, diary and photographs relating to Ernest Arthur Frost's WWI service with the Third Australian Light Horse, and Frost family photographs.

Historical information

Arthur Stanley Frost, first son of Ernest Arthur Frost and Violet Annie Frost (nee Field), married Violet Edith Murray in 1954 at the Oakbank Methodist Church. After their wedding, Arthur and Violet purchased a stone cottage on twenty acres of land on the South side of Fidler Lane, between Wistow and Mount Barker, where they ran a dairy and grew potatoes. In the mid 1960s, the couple expanded their farm by buying the forty acres on the North side of Fidler Lane. In 1968, they initiated plans to build a new house on the additional section of land, engaging Adelaide architect, John S. Chappel to draw design plans, and the house was completed in 1970. The new property was named 'Kalinya'. The original twenty acres, along with the cottage and dairy was sold in 1979-1980, and potatoes and Aberdeen Angus beef cattle became the farming focus on the remaining forty acres, with addtional land leased as the need arose. Arthur and Violet had three children; Kelvin, Julianne [Julie], and Sharon.
