General notes

Part of a collection comprising digital copies of artefacts, diary and photographs relating to Ernest Arthur Frost's WWI service with the Third Australian Light Horse, and Frost family photographs.

Original not held.

Size of original negative 6 x 8.8 cm.

Historical information

During WWII, an estimated 14,000-18,000 Italian prisoners of war were put to work on Australia's farms under a unique scheme. They had been shipped from British prisoner-of-war camps in India starting in mid 1943, and brought out to replace the men pulled from the farms to fight the war overseas, with only those Italian POWs deemed trustworthy being sent out to the farms.

Some years after the death of E.A. Frost, Violet Annie Frost remarried to Charles (Charlie) Chamberlain, and together they owned a farm at Oakbank located a short distance behind the Oakbank Racecourse.
