Historical information

It appears that the photos were mounted in the album by either his mother or sister as the inscriptions are in a different hand to George's. Inside the front cover the creator of the album has recorded various facts: 'March 6th Monday evening, examined & passed. Dr Pullieme / George enlisted 20 March Monday & took oath of enlistment / Went into camp March 27 1916 / Supposed to sail June 23rd 1916 / Sailed June 24th 1916 / left with 13th of 27th Battalion / At present in C Company 32nd Bat. / S.S. Bulla'.The first part of the album contains 35 small snapshots (approximately 45 x 70 or 60 x 80 mm) mounted on the album leaves: 10 were taken on board the Bulla; 17 show Cape Town (some just the local scenery, but nine include men from the ship); seven feature Cutler with relatives in England. All of these images are captioned, and some soldiers are identified (certainly, George Cutler is in every instance).
