General notes

The opalotype arrived in Australia in 1882 and was largely out of fashion by 1900. This photograph is one of five opalotypes (PRG 1442/2/1-5) which show members from two generations of the family and which are a consistent size and quality. Given that there was a professional photographer in the family (P.J. Marchant) it is suggested that these may have been produced at the same time for display (they were previously matted and presumably framed) using negatives created at different times.
