Hubbe, Samuel Grau, c. 1858-1889, Photograph, PRG 1415/7/5
From back of photograph: 'Probably S.G. Hubbe on his exploratory journey from Port Augusta to Perth across the Nullarbor Plain. Hopefully to plan a stock route - but altho' it was a good season in 1897(?) he had to report it was an impossible stock route. One of his camels escaped & four years later turned up at the Station where he was foaled. He is on camel back'. A researcher has provided the following information: 'It is not Samuel Grau Hubbe. It is a photo from the 1891 Elder Survey Expedition...The gentleman in the centre of the photo is Alfred Warren who was cook and assistant on the expedition. The two men on horses are possibly David Lindsey and Lawrence Allan Wells. Cameleers also pictured.'
