Summary

The iron ship 'Cedrid the Saxon', 1705 tons, in an unidentified port. [iron ship, 1705 tons, ON74467, 259.8 x 40.1 x 23.6. Built 1875 (10) J. Reid and Co. Port Glasgow. Owners: Williamson, Milligan and Co. registered Liverpool sold 1896 and fist voyage for the new owners was from New York and the East Indies with Case Oil. She sailed from New York October 1896 and was not seen again. Built for the Australian passenger trade and was lavishly fitted out - said to be one of the finest specimens of an iron hulled clipper ship. Left New York Sept. 19, 1896 with case oil for Padang, 'spoken' the next day then disappeared.]

One of the ships owned by Williamson, Milligan and Co., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
