Summary

The four masted steel barque, 'Ancyra', 2333 tons, in an unidentified harbour. [steel 4 mast barque, 2333tons, ON99417, 279.1 x 41.9 x 24.2. Built 1892 (7) Russell and Co. Greenoch. Owners : GT Soley and Co. registered Liverpool c.1909 sold to Germany and renamed 'Wandsbek' and interned in Mexico during WWI and while awaiting handover to UK she was driven ashore in an easterly gale in 1921 and became a total loss.]

One of the ships owned by G.T. Soley and Co. LTD., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
