The steel barque (ex ship) 'Ancaios' as 'Ravenhill', 1826 tons, at Hobart. [steel ship, 1826 tons. ON97853, 257.1 x 39.0 x 22.7, built 1891 (4) Russell and Co., Greenoch. Owners GT Soley and Co., registered Liverpool. c.1910 sold to Iredale and Porter of Belfast and renamed 'Ravenhill'. Reported sold to Australian owners c.1913. Captured by German submarine 18 April 1916, 78 miles SE by S from Fastnet, and sunk by gunfire.]

One of the ships owned by G.T. Soley and Co. LTD., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
