The iron ship 'Royal George', 1452 tons, at Port Adelaide [iron ship, 1452 tons, ON51418, 221.3 x 38.4 x 22.9. Built 1864 (11) Westwood, Baillie and Co., London. Owners: Richard Wright, registered Liverpool; 1878 McDiarmid, Greenshields and Co., registered Liverpool. Sold c.1896/7 to Norway and renamed 'Alabama'. Missing on a voyage from Pensacola to Rotterdam with pitch pine. Left 7 January 1899].

One of the ships owned by McDiarmid Greenshields and Co., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
