Summary

The iron ship 'Sierra Colonna', 1499 tons, in an unidentified port [Thomas Dodgson Wildridge was the master of the ship in 1879 and his daughter named Sierra Colonna Wildridge was born on board. (information supplied by a researcher) [iron ship, 1499 tons, ON78785, 238.6 x 38.0 x 22.8. Built 1878 (4) Richardson, Duck and Co., Stockton. Owners: Thompson, Anderson and Co. (Sierra Shipping Co.) registered Liverpool. c.1902/3 sold Norway and became 'Colonna' and hulked at Port Adelaide 1914 for Adelaide Steamship Company. Towed to Albury 1917 to to used for coal hulk. Oct. 1952 towed to sea by tug 'Uco' to a position off Bald Head and sunk by RAAF for target practice].

One of the ships owned by The Sierra Line / Thompson, Anderson and Co., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
