Summary

The iron ship 'Angerona', 1292 tons, being painted. [iron ship, 1292 tons. ON70894, 226.0 x 36.1 x 22.1. Built 1874 (11) Whitehaven Shipbuilding Co. Whitehaven: William Lowden, registered Liverpool, then Lowden Edgar and Co. c.1890 W. Lowden and Co., eventually became Norwegian owned without change of name and finally 'Hippen' and broken up under that name in 1924.] [Possible also known as 'Hippen'].

One of the ships owned by Lowdens Fleet / J. Lowden and Co., Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
