General notes

One of the ships owned by John Stewart and Co., London.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.

Historical information

A researcher has noted that the Peri made return voyages between London and Fremantle in 1897 and 1898 [iron ship, later barque orginally 776 tons, 1877 = 932 tons, ON58717 after lengthening in 1877 = 212.0 x 32.1 x 19.7. Built 1868 (12) Readhead, Softley and Co. South Shields, owners. William Wright, registered South Shields: c.1885 J Stewart and Co., registered South Shields].
