Summary

The wooden ship 'Arab Steed', 686 tons, in an unidentified harbour [wooden ship later barque. 635 tons, later 664 tons. ON47311, 162.7 x 32.1 x19.0. Built 1863 (2) W. Pile and Co. Sunderland. Owners: Messrs Hawley. Registered London. Eventually owned in Gothenburg. Photograph shows 'Arab Steed" rigged as a ship'.

One of the ships owned by T.B. Walker, London.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.

The ship founded before new year 1902 in the northern sea and all men were lost. [Information provided by Per-Ragnar Karlstrom.]
