The iron ship 'Leicester Castle', 2067 tons, docked in an unidentified port [iron ship, 2067 tons, ON87031. 273.4 x 40.3 x 24.2. Built 1882 (9) Oswald, Mordaunt and Co., Southampton. Owners: Leicester Castle Ship Co. (J Coupland) registered Liverpool. c.1899 RA Smith and Co; c1902/3 J Joyce, later became the Norwegian vessel 'Vik'. Broken up in 1924. Notable for a mutiny staged in 1902 in the South Pacific].

One of the ships owned by the Coupland Brothers, Liverpool.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
