Summary

'Alsterfee' steel 4 masted barque in Port Adelaide, 2701 tons. [See 'Oranasia'] [steel 4 mast barque, 2706 tons, ON99416, 305.1 x 44.0 x 24.7. Built 1892 (6) Russell and Co., Port Glasgow. Owners J&W Goffey, registered Liverpool. c.1909 sold to German owners and renamed 'Alsterfee'. Later she was renamed 'Lucy Vinnen', then 'Tamara VI'. In 1921 she was sold to the Greek Government for use as a training ship and again renamed, this time becoming 'Mayotte', finally she was sold to the free port of Dantzig for use as a training ship and renamed 'Hedwig Hemsoth' and sold for breaking up in 1925]

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
