Summary

'Alice' steel barque 2691 tons. [ Steel three mast barque. 2796g, 1998n tons, later 2691g, 2270n tons. 282.1 x 41.0 x 26.0. Built 1901 Atel & Chant de Normandie, Rouen. Owners: Cie Havraise de Nav (Ed. Corblet & Co, Managers) reg. Havre. Broken up in 1924.] [NB - the vessel depicted was never owned by Soc. Gen. d'Armement although it is in that section. The first vessel of this name owned by Gen. d'Armement was 1511g, built 1897 at Chantenay and sold in 1901 and renamed 'Marie Madeleine'. The next was 2630g. 1698n. tons and built in 1901 at Bordeaux. See Ref. 10 for example, but this is also touched upon in Ref. 8.]

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons.
